Movie Review: Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Monster? in 'The Host' (2006)

Bong Joon-ho's The Host (Korean title 괴물 or Monster) is one of those movies that you keep on hearing about when the people on the internet talk about really good Korean movies. For the longest time I didn't want to watch it mostly because it's a monster movie with lots of potential scares. But I didn't need to worry all that much. The Host does have a monster and is full of surprises, but it is ultimately a funny family drama and a smart satire with a special guest from a special creature.

Movie Review: 'The Throne' (2015) is a Cautionary Tale of Unfortunate Parenting

The lives of royalty has been a subject of both admiration and pity for many and tales of tragedy has always gone hand in hand with the people living within the palace walls. None more so than Crown Prince Sado, the misunderstood crown prince of King Yeongjo whose life and death has become a sort of legend. His tragic tale has been inspiration for numerous adaptations. Among them is the 2015 movie Sado also known as The Throne, helmed by Lee Joon-ik returning to sageuk 10 years after the hit The King and the Clown and lead by magnificent performances of Song Kang-ho and Yoo Ah-in as the king and his crown prince respectively.

So when he finds the woman he loves, it becomes a struggle to keep their relationship and, just like the title of the film, seek the Beauty Inside.

Romantic movies are a dime in a dozen in the movie world. Romantic movies involving the elderly however is not. Which is why the 2011 romantic movie Late Blossom about two elderly couples is such a breath of fresh air among the saccharine love stories that floats about.

Movie Review: Christmas in August (1998)

Ah, forgive me for not writing yesterday. But to compensate, I will write two today. Hopefully I can pull through. Anyways, for this post I'm going to review one of Korea's beloved films, Christmas in August which was released back in 1998 and directed by Hur Jin-ho. A quiet, slice of life movie that gives a punch, this is such a lovely movie that any Korean movie lover should get a chance to watch.

For the past three days, I've been reviewing movies I've watched recently and  that were released in the past few years. By the past few years I mean in the new decade. Today, I'm going to talk about one of my favorite movies, Antique. This movie was released back in 2008 and has been one of my all-time favorites. Movie Review: Eighteen (2010)

Adolescence is a time when life feels like a rocking horse. So many things in and around you seem to change. Your body and your hormones start doing weird things to your head. The people around you expects more from you now that you're more than just a child. More than that, there seems to be a new feeling that starts to form during this time of life. Love. That feeling you get when you can't help but be attracted to the opposite sex, the people you thought were your enemies. Suddenly they become interesting, they seem beautiful in your eyes, you just want to be with them. But true to many things, this feeling of love isn't completely yours. The parents that might not agree with all this, the friends that don't even help. This helpless feelings of love and life in adolescence is discussed in Eighteen.

Now I have to tell you, I hate war movies. Or war overall. I hate war. I'm totally against the concept, the idea of war. Whatever the reason for war I never agree with. I hate the blood, I hate the fights, I hate the selfishness, I hate everything about it. Especially the blood and piling corpses. Which automatically leaves me hating war movies. I just don't have the heart, or stomach, for it.
