Sunshine Award

Hello everyone. I'm not dead (yet). I feel like this has been my intro a lot more than I'd like, but what can I do. Today's post won't be a drama/movie related post, instead it will be all about blogs and blogging. And I guess K-dramas, but in a different way. Thanks to Vee of dramapenchant for nominating! Let's go.

1. Favorite kdrama trope?
I don't know if this can be considered a favorite, but it gets me laughing every time (for all the wrong reasons). It is the first slow-mo kiss, bonus if there's an added 360 degree camera shot. I'm pretty sure this is the moment all K-drama fans are looking forward to with glee, but to me it's filled to the brim with cheesiness, and I love it.

2. Your least favorite kdrama trope (as in the one you despise)?
Poor yet bubbly girl meets arrogant rich guy, fix guy, girl leaves job, rich mom gets pissed, someone dies, everything is fixed, happy ending. Just stop.

3. You are the heroine of a show, who is your leading man?
Do you want me to call out an actor? Because that's easy: Jo Seung-woo. Man, I love him to pieces. He's not really smoldering hot or sexy or god-like handsome, but in his own way, he is. Plus, he's extremely talented. If he's in a movie (or whatever project), you can guarantee he'll act the hell out of it. Even when the story itself is... questionable.

4. Top 3 dramas and why?
Ooph this is a toughie, but here's what they are so far:
1. It's Okay, That's Love - this is pretty clear. I've confessed my love for it, saying it to be the best drama ever. That's a high claim, but I stand my ground. It's a drama you don't expect to be a K-drama and in that sense, it is perfect.
2. Sassy Girl, Chun-hyang - this is mostly sentimental reasons. It's the first drama that I've completed and it's the only drama I've watched three times. That's a lot of hours spent watching this thing. This first half and last quarter of it is perfect. The remainder is confused. But Chun-hyang and Mong-ryong's chemistry is out of this world. They are just cute. So cute.
3. Shut Up Flower Boy Band - this third spot is a tough one. I knew my first and second, by the third is up in the air. I went through my drama list and there are quite a lot I like, but I decided to choose this one because it's quite different. One, it's the best out of the Flower Boys series. Two, it talks about teenagers. And three, it isn't too heavy in the romance plot. I guess School 2013 is also similar to this, but I liked Shut Up more, in my humble opinion.

5. If you can travel to any country (all expenses paid), where would it be and what would be the first thing you’ll eat there?
It's been a dream of mine to travel to Turkey. I love Turkish food, at least the ones I've tried. That's the biggest reason, really. But also I think the architecture is beautiful. But the food is the number one reason.

6. Your ideal kdrama cast would include..?
Vee, your questions are difficult! I'm going to mess this up. But in a drama, I want Hyun Bin. Preferably in a sparkly blue trainer top. There's something about him that is just so... yum. As for the girl, my biggest girl crush is Moon Chae-won. But is Moon Chae-won and Hyun Bin a good combo? For the rest, maybe include Seo Jun-young where he doesn't die?

7. You have traveled into the past, what era are you hoping it is?
I want to travel to the late 80's-early 90's, which isn't that long ago, but I think it's a cool age. It's modern enough that there's plenty of medicine and hygiene that we can be moderately healthy, but it's not so overly tech-ed out like it is today. It's also around the time I was born so I'm just curious.

8. Your favorite pastime activity(s) (other than watching dramas and blogging)?
I like reading, and does watching movies count? On a more productive note, I do like photography a bit. Oddly enough I never use instagram. Mostly because I'm poor and I haven't bought one of those fancy smartphones with decent cameras yet. Other activity I like: eating.

Also, to return the favor I nominate Indigo of Between Wor(L)ds, Rosie of Shine a Light Rose, Mimi of The Talking Cupboard, and Dewaani of Samsoon Down the Rabbit Hole!

And here are the questions:
1. If you can recommend one drama to a K-drama virgin, what would it be?
2. Which K-drama couple you wish could reunite once again?
3. What is your favorite K-drama OST? (Could be just one song or the whole album)
4. What is one (or more) K-drama(s) you wish you haven't watched?
5. What is one thing you love and one thing you hate about blogging?
6. If you were a food, what would you be?
7. What is your favorite sick day movie?
8. Recommend us some of your favorite books!

Guidelines:
  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
  • Nominate a few other bloggers
  • Write the same amount of questions for the bloggers you nominated
  • Notify the bloggers on their blog
  • Put the award button on your blog

So there you go, a little something different on this blog. "Normal" programming will return shortly after this. Hopefully. I'm trying to figure out how to watch some one-off dramas, one of which might include a special someone (i.e. Jo Seung-woo) so be on the look out for that. Also, I'm working on watching Secret Door. I've actually started watching it today and it is intense. We'll see how I get on with that.

  1. Your favourite Kdrama trope is rather unique :D Most of kdrama fans don't really like it but like you said, there's certain cheesiness to it. Hehehe

Thank you so much for the nomination ;) I feel quite guilty to be nominated since I'm not that active nowadays but I truly appreciate it!

Secret Door is one intense show and it needs patience and attention while watching. Loving it so far and the cast is nailing it with their acting chops..plus LJH's expressive eyes..they're killing me.

By the way, I'm sure you know about YAI's cameo in DoR. Heeee

    1. Just went over to your blog and saw you answered the questions! Man, you're fast. (Also, why am I still online?)

About Secret Door, why did they bring in the wonderful soul that is Seo Jun-young and then kill him just as we were falling in love with him? WHY!? Though props to him for making us care so much in that short span of time. But someone give this boy an elixir of life or something. My heart, it can't take.

As for Yoo Ah-in, yes I am aware of his cameo, although I'm not too fond of that drama so I don't know whether I'll watch it. I'll see how the ending is, and maybe then skip to his episode. We'll see.

    2. Naaah, it's weekend! There's no need to go to bed early, except if you have nothing to do (like me)..

They know his impact and they are utilizing it to make our hearts bleed with his death. What's up with his characters dying premature deaths in sageuk?? Though I'm kinda excited that he's starring in Tears of Heaven...but that one seems like a ride full of makjang.

I didn't even watch it actually but I'm enjoying all the news and screencaps of YAI's cameo. Haaa

p/s: this is mimi from the talking cupboard. Not sure why blogger refused to link this comment to my wordpress account :(

    3. Your comment is linking just fine :)

Ooph, now that you said it, his fate in sageuks do seem rather grim. Ugh... ripped my heart open all over again.

  2. Conan,

Loved reading you answers!! The '90s, ahhh the nostalgia!!!

And JO SEUNG WOO!!! Was deciding between him and Jo In Sung for my answer but Jo In Sung won in the end! ^^ Odd how they were both in The Classic and are now two of my favorite actors!

    1. Oh yeah! I totally forgot. Although Jo In-sung in The Classic kind of sucked. Mostly because his character was blah compared to Jo Seung-woo's, but also I think his acting chops weren't up to par as they are now. (Jo Seung-woo has always been great. Yes, I'm biased ;p)

    2. Haha I completely agree though. Jo In Sung was kind of terrible in The Classic. Thank god he's improved over the years!

    3. Yes! And thank goodness because what would we be without Jang Jae-yeol?

  3. Hey Conan! It was so kind of you to nominate me :) I also really enjoyed reading this post, it's great to know more about the bloggers in our lovely drama community.

I just wanted to let you know that I answered all of your questions and I also nominated you back. You don't need to answer my questions if you're not in the mood, but if you still want to you can just leave a comment under my blog post: http://saryre.blogspot.com/2014/10/you-are-my-sunshine-aka-sunshine-award.html

I gotta warn you, though. My questions are somewhat weird :D
